Move follows Altay Bayindir’s costly error in the Premier League opener against Arsenal
Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
United are prepared to pay in the region of €20m (£17m) for the 23-year-old. The Belgium U-21 international is expected to provide competition for Andre Onana.
The increased interest in Lammens comes after Altay Bayindir’s error proved the difference between United and Arsenal, as Mikel Arteta’s side won a narrow 1-0 victory in the two sides’ opening Premier League match last week.
Bayindir had been in goal ahead of Onana, who is recovering from a hamstring issue, but the Turkish goalkeeper has never been a reliable option when called to step up in place of United’s No 1.
Onana himself has also struggled since he joined from Inter Milan in 2023 for £44.4m, making a series of high-profile errors leading to goals.
The Cameroonian is expected to stay at the club this summer despite speculation over his future, but he is also set to play in the Africa Cup of Nations mid-season, which would seem him out on international duty between December and February.
As a result, United are keen to sign a reliable replacement.
Lammens came through Club Brugge’s academy and made his senior debut in 2021, before joining Antwerp two years later.
