The Saudi Pro League remains an option but Antony is likely to delay that choice until the La Liga deadline closes

Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has made it clear he wants to bring Antony back to Seville after the winger’s productive loan spell last season, but negotiations remain stalled with Manchester United over a fee.

Antony joined Betis on loan in January and quickly became a key figure, producing nine goals and five assists in 26 appearances. The Brazilian’s impact helped Betis secure European qualification and endeared him to supporters, who have since pushed for a permanent deal.

Speaking to reporters, Pellegrini confirmed both club and player are keen on a reunion.

“We all know Antony was very happy during the six-month period he was with us,” said Pellegrini. “We want him back, and he wants to come back. But ultimately it depends on Manchester United.”

United are reluctant to sanction an overly reduced fee or another loan move after paying £82m to sign Antony from Ajax in 2022.

The 25-year-old still has two years left on his contract, and the club would prefer a sale and are seeking to recoup as much of their original investment as possible.

For now, Antony remains on the fringes at Old Trafford, training away from the first-team group while his future is resolved.

Interest has come from Saudi Arabia and while the player is not ruling that out, his preference is to return to La Liga. A resolution might be delayed until 1 September, when the La Liga deadline closes.

Crucially, the Saudi Pro League deadline will remain open for another week, making the move to the Middle East a possibility for Antony if a move to Betis fails.
