Chelsea’s ownership group, BlueCo, has agreed to sign Julio Enciso from Brighton in a deal worth around £16 million, with the player expected to join Strasbourg initially as part of the club’s multi-club project.
Chelsea’s ownership group, BlueCo, has reached an agreement with Brighton to sign Julio Enciso in a deal worth around £16 million.
The 21-year-old Paraguay international will become the 15th player or staff member to switch from Brighton to Chelsea since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took charge at Stamford Bridge in 2022. Enciso’s transfer is part of Chelsea’s strategy to develop young talent through their multi-club project, which includes Strasbourg, another club under the BlueCo umbrella.
Enciso is expected to join Strasbourg initially, where he will develop his skills under the guidance of Liam Rosenior. The plan is for Enciso to spend time at Strasbourg before eventually integrating into Chelsea’s plans. This move provides Enciso with a new opportunity after finding himself outside of Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler’s plans for the season.
Enciso spent the second half of last campaign on loan at Ipswich Town, showing glimpses of his attacking flair.
The transfer of Enciso from Brighton to Chelsea continues a growing trend of deals between the two clubs. Chelsea’s spending on former Seagulls players and staff now surpassing £257 million, with notable acquisitions including Marc Cucurella, Moisés Caicedo, and manager Graham Potter.
Enciso’s move to Chelsea is seen as a long-term investment, with the player expected to develop his skills at Strasbourg before joining Chelsea’s first-team squad. The deal is worth around £16 million and could potentially rise with add-ons. Enciso has agreed to a long-term contract with Chelsea, running until 2031, with an option to extend by a further year.
