Villarreal has agreed on personal terms with Chelsea defender Renato Veiga, with negotiations ongoing for a potential transfer worth €24m plus add-ons.

Villarreal are close to signing Chelsea defender Renato Veiga, with the two parties having agreed on personal terms.

The 22-year-old Portuguese international is eager to leave Chelsea permanently after a loan spell at Juventus, where he struggled to secure a regular role.

The transfer negotiations are centred around the fee, with Chelsea demanding €30 million (£25.9m) and Villarreal offering €24 million (£20.7m) plus add-ons. If the deal goes through, Chelsea would make an instant profit, having signed Veiga for around £12 million last summer.

Veiga’s potential departure from Chelsea is part of the club’s efforts to reduce their squad and raise funds. Other players expected to exit include Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, and Raheem Sterling. The permanent sales of Veiga and Nkunku could enable Chelsea to finalise deals for Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons.

The Portugal international’s move to Villarreal would provide him with the opportunity to secure a regular centre-back role, which he believes is crucial for his chances of making the Portugal squad for next World Cup.
