Club believe a temporary move to Germany will help his development
Manchester City forward Claudio Echeverri will spend the 2025-26 campaign at Bayer Leverkusen after the two clubs agreed a season-long loan deal for the Argentine teenager.
The deal does not include an option to buy, and the expectation is that Echeverri will return to Manchester at the end of the season.
Echeverri was signed from River Plate earlier this year for £12.5m. He made his debut for City when he was brought on in the second half of the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace at Wembley.
The 19-year-old then joined Pep Guardiola’s side at the Club World Cup and scored a goal on his full debut, before ending the competition early due to an ankle injury.
This summer, he attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, Lazio and Girona, but City opted to place him with Leverkusen.
The club believe his move to Germany will help his development, as Leverkusen can offer the regular minutes that the Premier League side cannot.
City have also sanctioned another loan move for 18-year-old midfielder Sverre Nypan, who has joined Middlesbrough in the Championship.
Nypan was bought from Rosenborg earlier this summer after City beat Arsenal to his signature.
The Norwegian teenager already has 70 senior appearances to his name, having broken into Rosenborg’s first team at just 15.
