Arsenal grinded out a 1-0 win against Manchester United in the opening weekend of the Premier League, and although it’s just the first game, there are a few things for both sets of fans to note.
Arsenal didn’t have it easy this time against Manchester United. While the Gunners may have won 1-0, the Red Devils would feel like they were the better team, and taking away the scoreline, they were.
Before the goal, Manchester United gave Arsenal a run for their money. The Gunners were barely hanging on in the first 10 minutes, but after the goal, Arsenal were able to work themselves back into the game.
Arsenal, known for their defensive solidity, put on a masterclass today. The Gunners didn’t have major cracks that United could take advantage of. The midfield held strong, protecting the back four, and at times when the defence had to encounter the force of Mbuemo and Cunha, Gabriel, Saliba, and Calafiori were equal to the task.

Raya also deserves his flowers. He was impeccable today and was responsible for keeping the scoreline at 1-0. The Golden Glove winner showed why he’s the best keeper in the league, making seven saves today.

Away from Raya, Manchester United were a revelation today. United fought, showed resilience, and were unlucky to get a draw.
Cunha and Mbuemo kept Arsenal’s defence busy. Both players were skillful when necessary and decisive on the ball. When Cunha entered the fray, they showed that there’s light at the end of the tunnel for Manchester United.

Although they failed to muster a goal today, United fans will be happy with what they saw today. Arsenal fans, on the other hand, would need to be patient with Gyokeres. Many fans would’ve hoped to see him hit the famous mask celebration today, but they’ll have to wait a little longer.
It wasn’t a glorious debut as he wasn’t even able to muster an attempt on target, but given the high stakes of the fixture, it was expected. Arsenal do have the quality to service Gyokeres, and with time, he’ll hit the ground running.
