Extension continues Barcelona’s strategy of securing the core of their squad on long-term contracts
Jules Kounde has signed a new five-year contract with Barcelona, committing his future to the club until 2030.
The defender had two years remaining on his previous deal but negotiations over an extension had been ongoing for several months. Barcelona confirmed the agreement on Friday, describing Kounde as “hugely important for [manager] Hansi Flick”.
Kounde has established himself as a regular starter since arriving from Sevilla in 2022. Having joined as a centre-back, he eventually made the right-back position his own.
The player’s extension is a continuation of Barcelona’s strategy of securing the core of their squad on long-term contracts, with Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi and Pedri all signing fresh terms in recent months.
“I’m very happy here,” said Kounde during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia earlier in August. “I feel comfortable in the team and I’m very motivated by the club’s ambition. “Every year we fight for all the titles and I have no intention of leaving.”
