Pep Guardiola says the player’s knee is now “perfect”
Manchester City midfielder Rodri will be part of the travelling squad for Saturday’s match against Wolves, Pep Guardiola has confirmed.
The Spain international sustained a knee ligament injury during the Club World Cup and had to be substituted just a few minutes after coming on.
City had initially feared he would not return until mid-September. However, Guardiola said that his recovery had progressed quicker than expected.
“Importantly, his knee is perfect,” said Guardiola. “Now he needs to bring minutes in training sessions and a few in games when possible. We don’t want him to come back and then step back again because it’s not dynamic when you can’t get rhythm.
Rodri has taken part in several full training sessions this week, according to the manager, and Guardiola said the decision on whether or not he features at Molineux will be made on matchday.
“He’s travelling [to Wolves],” Guardiola said. “We’ll decide how many minutes. If not, then hopefully he can play minutes in next games and then after the international break he can help us.”
