Club are not expected to sanction a deal until they secure reinforcements in attack
Newcastle target Yoane Wissa has been training away from Brentford’s first-team squad amid uncertainty over his future.
The forward has told the club he wants to join Newcastle United and his representatives have held talks with Brentford’s hierarchy about a possible exit.
Sources close to the player say his position remains unchanged and he has no intention of playing for the club again.
A move is not expected to progress until Brentford secure reinforcements in attack. The club have sold Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United and are unwilling to sanction the sale of another forward without getting a replacement.
Top of their list is Bournemouth winger Dango Ouattara and Brentford are in discussions with the south coast club for a deal.
All indications are that Wissa will miss Brentford’s Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The DR Congo international has scored 49 goals in 149 appearances since joining Brentford from Lorient in 2021.
