Transfer will bring an end to a mixed three-year spell at Anfield for the Uruguyan

Darwin Nunez is set to complete a medical to seal his impending move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Liverpool have agreed a €65m deal with Al-Hilal for the striker. That includes a guaranteed €53m, with a further €12m in add-ons based on Nunez’s performance.

On Wednesday, the club granted him permission to conclude personal terms with Al-Hilal. With those agreements finalised, the Uruguay international has now been cleared to travel to Germany – where Al-Hilal are currently based for pre-season – to undergo a medical and complete the move.

The transfer will bring an end to a mixed three-year spell at Anfield for Nunez. The player arrived from Benfica in 2022 for an initial €75m fee and, although he scored 40 goals, was never really convincing and could not establish himself as a regular starter.

Last season, Nunez made 30 appearances in the league but started only eight times, scoring five goals as Liverpool won the title.

Saudi club Al Nassr had submitted a €70m bid for him in the January window, but Liverpool wanted to keep him for the title run-in.

Talks with Al-Hilal accelerated in recent days, and an agreement was reached ahead of Milan and Napoli, who had shown interest but were unable to compete with the financial terms on offer from Saudi Arabia.
