Antonio Conte identifies Bologna’s Giovanni Fabbian as the ideal backup for Scott McTominay, with Napoli holding preliminary talks with Bologna. Fabio Miretti is also a target, but talks with Juventus are not advanced.
Antonio Conte is reportedly eyeing Bologna’s Giovanni Fabbian as the ideal backup for Scotland international Scott McTominay.
Fabbian, a product of the Inter academy, has caught Conte’s attention with his impressive performances in Serie A. Napoli have already held preliminary talks with Bologna, but negotiations are not yet at an advanced stage.
Conte genuinely likes Fabbian’s profile and believes he would be a great fit for Napoli’s midfield. Fabbian’s late runs into the final third have impressed Conte, who thinks this skill would be a valuable asset for Napoli. This is similar to how McTominay has contributed to the team’s success in the 2024-25 season.
McTominay has been a key player for Napoli, scoring 11 goals from midfield and surpassing his records from multiple Premier League campaigns. Conte has praised McTominay’s growth and improvement since joining Napoli, saying he has become a more complete player under his guidance.
However, Napoli may need to find a suitable backup for McTominay, and Fabbian is currently their top target. Fabio Miretti, who has returned to Juventus after a loan spell at Genoa, is also on Napoli’s radar. Nevertheless, talks between Napoli and Juventus for Miretti are not yet advanced.
With Conte’s endorsement, Fabbian’s potential transfer to Napoli seems increasingly likely. If successful, this move would strengthen Napoli’s midfield and provide a solid backup option for McTominay
