Brentford recently rejected a £25m bid from the Magpies for the DR Congo international
Yoane Wissa has continued to absent himself from Brentford duties amid interest from Newcastle United.
The forward was not among the players who travelled to Loftus Road with the rest of the Brentford team for Saturday’s pre-season friendly at QPR.
He also did not take part in first-team training this week, and sources close to the club say he is angry given Brentford’s refusal to sanction a move.
Newcastle, who are actively seeking to reinforce their No 9 position, remain interested in signing Wissa and recently had a £25m bid rejected by Brentford.
The club’s primary, high-profile target is RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but Wissa is viewed as a viable alternative should Isak leave or a deal for Sesko not materialise.
Brentford, however, are reluctant to lose another key forward after selling Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United earlier this summer in a deal worth up to £71m. Manager Thomas Frank and captain Christian Norgaard have also left this summer.
It has left the club wary of dismantling its squad too much.
Wissa is under contract at Brentford until 2027, but he wants to move on, especially given the offer of Champions League football at Newcastle. He feels the club would be robbing him of that dream by retaining him, especially in such a late stage of his career, with the player turning 29 in September.
