Olise and Diaz Shine in Bayern’s First Preseason Friendly

Bayern Munich got their 2025/26 campaign off to a winning start, overcoming Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 in a preseason friendly match.

Michael Olise was the star of the show, scoring a penalty in the 53rd minute and doubling Bayern’s lead nine minutes later with a neat low shot after being fed through by Serge Gnabry.

The match saw Vincent Kompany make 11 changes at halftime, introducing new signing Luis Díaz, who made an instant impact. Díaz’s pace and skill caused Lyon’s defense problems, and he drew a foul from Clinton Mata, winning a penalty that Olise converted.

Díaz continued to threaten Lyon’s goal, having two earlier efforts well-saved by goalkeeper Rémy Descamps and another shot blocked.

Bayern’s substitutes made a lively start to the second half, with Gnabry finding Olise for the second goal. Despite Lyon’s efforts to level, Bayern held firm, with Jonas Urbig making a strong save to deny Kumbedi and Descamps denying Díaz.

Lyon did manage to pull one back in the 83rd minute when Alejandro Rodríguez scored with a shot into the low right corner of the net, assisted by Ernest Nuamah Merah. However, it was too little, too late, and Bayern completed a deserved 2-1 victory.

The match was a good test for both teams, with Bayern showing their attacking prowess and Lyon posing a threat on the counter-attack. Bayern’s young players, such as Lennart Karl and Paul Wanner, also showed promise, with Karl hitting a well-hit volley that fizzed narrowly wide and Wanner shooting over the bar from a promising position.

Bayern Munich will look to build on this performance as they prepare for their next match against Tottenham Hotspur in the Telekom Cup 2025. With Olise and Díaz in good form, Bayern fans will be excited to see what the future holds for these talented players.
