Chelsea have agreed to a deal for Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, with the 19-year-old set to sign a seven-year contract with the Blues.

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of 19-year-old defender Jorrel Hato, with the deal worth an initial £37m, subject to Ajax’s supervisory board approval.

Hato is expected to complete a medical and sign a seven-year contract with Chelsea, lasting until 2032. The talented young defender is capable of playing at either left-back or in central defense, adding competition to Chelsea’s backline.

Hato’s impressive performances for Ajax and the Netherlands have caught the attention of top clubs, and Chelsea is thrilled to have secured his services.

The 19-year-old made his senior debut for Ajax in February 2023 at just 16 years and 335 days old, becoming the third-youngest player to feature in an Eredivisie game for the club. He has since made 75 appearances for Ajax and earned his first senior cap for the Netherlands in 2023.

Hato’s arrival at Chelsea would mark the eighth addition to the squad this summer, with the Blues spending over £250m on new signings. However, the club has also generated over £150m from player sales, demonstrating their commitment to balancing their finances.

The Blues have held talks with RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons’ representatives but have not made a formal bid yet. Chelsea are also looking to make further player sales, with Christopher Nkunku likely to leave and Nicolas Jackson potentially up for sale if the right offer comes in.
