Leipzig are understood to want a fee in the region of €80m for Sesko
Manchester United have opened talks with RB Leipzig over a potential move for Benjamin Sesko.
No formal bid has been submitted, with United only contacting the Bundesliga side to better understand the financial terms of a possible deal for the 22-year-old Slovenia international.
The Premier League side have narrowed down their search for a striker this summer to two candidates – Sesko and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Leipzig are understood to want a fee in the region of €80m for Sesko, but that valuation currently exceeds United’s budget.
United are not alone in their interest, with Newcastle United also monitoring the striker’s situation and likely to bid first.
Given their current financial status and the similarities between Sesko and current United forward Rasmus Hojlund, it is unlikely that the Red Devils will make a move for the player.
United have also been targeting Premier League-proven players this summer, which may mean the club are more likely to move for Ollie Watkins, although Villa are currently unwilling to sell.
Any further incomings to Old Trafford this summer are also likely to hinge on outgoings. Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho are four players the club are currently trying to move on.
A swap deal with Villa involving Garnacho for Watkins is not completely off the table.
