Defender’s previous contract was set to expire in 2027 but the agreement extends it for an additional three years
Jules Kounde has agreed to extend his stay at Barcelona, with the French defender confirming a contract agreement that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2030.
Speaking during Barcelona’s pre-season tour in South Korea, Kounde revealed that final paperwork on the new deal will be completed upon the team’s return to Spain.
“Yes, it’s a matter of days,” said Kounde. “When we return, everything will be finalised, so I’m happy about that.
“It’s been quick. Both the club and I wanted to continue.”
Kounde’s previous contract was set to expire in 2027, but the agreement will secure his services for an additional three years.
Barcelona sporting director Deco made it clear the club would work this summer to secure the future of key players with contract extensions. That strategy appears to have been pursued closely, with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha being other players besides Kounde who have signed contract extensions this window.
Originally signed as a central defender, Kounde has become a regular at right-back and was instrumental last season as Barcelona claimed a domestic treble. The defender scored the late winner when the Catalans beat Real Madrid to the Copa Del Rey in April.
“I’m very happy here,” said Kounde. “I feel comfortable in the team and I’m very motivated by the club’s ambition.
“Every year we fight for all the titles and I had no intention of leaving. My contract runs until 2030.”
