Federico Chiesa is reportedly prioritizing a return to Italy and is uninterested in joining Fenerbahce, despite interest from Jose Mourinho.

Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool is uncertain, with the club prepared to sell the Italian forward this transfer window. According to reports, Chiesa is seeking regular first-team football with the 2026 World Cup approaching, and a return to Italy is his top priority.

This preference is part of the reason why he has little interest in joining Fenerbahce, despite the interest from former Inter and Roma head coach Jose Mourinho.

Chiesa’s move to Liverpool last summer was seen as a significant signing, but he struggled to break into the first-team picture under Jurgen Klopp. Now under Arne Slot, he has also struggled for game time.

Liverpool are now willing to cut ties with the 51-time Italy international, and a number of clubs in Italy have been linked with a move for the former Fiorentina forward.

Reports suggest that Chiesa is not motivated by the idea of joining Fenerbahce, and his priority is to find a club where he can play regular football.

With the 2026 World Cup taking place at the end of the coming season, Chiesa’s decision to prioritize Italy makes sense, as he would likely want to play for a club in a top European league to increase his chances of being selected for the Italian national team.

Liverpool are reportedly seeking a fee of around €15m, the same as what they spent last summer, to sell Chiesa this window. The Reds will likely be keen to recoup their investment, and Chiesa’s departure could allow them to bring in new players who better fit their needs.

If he can find a club that offers him regular first-team football, he may be able to revive his career and cement his place in the Italian national team.
