Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk reveals why Victor Osimhen chose to join the Turkish champions despite lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.

Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk believes Victor Osimhen’s love for the club’s fans was the driving force behind his decision to join the Turkish champions permanently. 

Despite Napoli’s initial reluctance to let him go, Osimhen’s desire to stay in Istanbul ultimately led to his transfer to Galatasaray for €75 million. Buruk said, “Galatasaray fans gave Osimhen the kind of love he’d never experienced before. That is why I always believed that he would stay.”

The transfer deal was finalized after the two clubs agreed on a payment structure and adequate financial guarantees. Osimhen is expected to complete his permanent transfer to Galatasaray very soon, with Buruk saying, “We will complete the transfer very soon, I believe it will be finalized as soon as possible.” 

The Nigerian striker had a remarkable loan spell with Galatasaray, scoring 37 goals and providing 8 assists in 41 competitive appearances.

Despite more lucrative proposals from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, Osimhen chose to stay in Istanbul.

Buruk praised the fans’ role in securing the deal, saying, “Everyone put in a great deal of effort to secure this deal, starting from our President, but the most important part was done by the fans. They made Osimhen experience something special.” The coach also drew parallels with Mauro Icardi’s transfer to Galatasaray, suggesting that the club has a knack for attracting top talent.

Osimhen’s journey to Galatasaray was not without its challenges. He initially joined the club on loan in September 2024 after struggling to find a new team before the transfer window closed.

Despite being given a warm welcome by Napoli fans when he first arrived, Osimhen’s relationship with the club soured after he requested a transfer. He became a hero when helping Napoli win their first Serie A title in over 30 years, but things didn’t work out in the end.
