New signing will link up with the Liverpool squad later this week in Hong Kong
Liverpool have completed the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt to bring their summer spending to just under £300m.
Ekitike joins the Premier League champions in a deal that could rise to £79m, including add-ons. Frankfurt will receive an initial fee of £69m, with a further £10m tied to performance-related bonuses.
The France Under-21 international will link up with the Liverpool squad later this week in Hong Kong, where the team are currently on their pre-season tour of Asia.
Ekitike attracted strong interest this summer after a standout season at Frankfurt in which he scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists across 48 appearances. He helped the club qualify for the Champions League and reach the Europa League quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by eventual champions Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool moved decisively to beat competition primarily from Newcastle, who have been tracking Ekitike since 2022 and made an earlier bid of around £65m for him this summer.
The striker becomes the fifth major signing of the window for Slot, following deals for Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche said the move was a reflection of Ekitike’s development and the club’s ability to develop talent.
“Hugo has earned this step,” said Krosche. “It shows what we can offer young players and how they can grow here before moving on to the biggest stages.”
