Arsenal are close to completing the transfer of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting, with the deal reportedly worth £63.5m including add-ons.
Arsenal are on the verge of signing Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, with negotiations over the finer details of the transfer taking longer than expected.
The 27-year-old Sweden forward has already agreed to a five-year contract with the Gunners, and the deal is expected to be worth £63.5m including add-ons.
Gyokeres has been in high demand during the summer transfer window after an impressive season with Sporting, scoring 54 goals in 52 games. His prolific form has made him a top target for Arsenal, who have been searching for a new striker to add to their squad.
The search for a striker has been a long process for Mikel Arteta, who has been desperate to add an elite center-forward to his team.
Arsenal’s failure to find a top striker last season resulted in them scoring 17 fewer goals and finishing 10 points behind champions Liverpool in the Premier League.
Arsenal had previously turned their attention to Gyokeres after hitting an impasse in their bid to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. The Gunners have been busy in the transfer market, signing England winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea last week.
Gyokeres has an impressive record in Portugal, scoring 97 goals in 102 matches during his two seasons with Sporting. He helped the club win back-to-back Primeira Liga titles and was one of the most prolific strikers in the Championship during his time at Coventry.
The Sweden international has 26 caps and has scored 15 goals for his country. Gyokeres is expected to bring a new level of quality to Arsenal’s attack, and his signing would be a significant boost for the team.
With the deal expected to be completed soon, Gyokeres will join Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Asia, which starts this weekend. The Gunners will face AC Milan, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur in the coming weeks.
