French midfielder says it is “not really Amorim’s fault” as he “needs to win”

Manchester United are losing a great player in Marcus Rashford, former club midfielder Paul Pogba has said.

At the weekend, United and Barcelona agreed on a loan deal for the 2025-26 season. The La Liga champions have an option to buy the player next summer for €35m.

Speaking , Pogba said he was happy for his former teammate, who has joined Barcelona on loan with an option to buy for .

“That’s crazy, but I’m happy for him because they [United] took his number,” said Pogba during a livestream with content creator iShowSpeed. “Manchester United are losing a great player. Unlucky for them. It’s great for Barcelona to be honest.”

Rashford’s departure follows a difficult two years at Old Trafford, where he drastically lost form after a 30-goal season. He fell out of favour with Ruben Amorim shortly after the Portuguese manager’s arrival and was sent on loan to Aston Villa in January.

That temporary move ended with four goals in 17 appearances, and now the 27-year-old has the opportunity to relaunch his career in La Liga.

Pogba, who has had a difficult few years himself and recently signed for Monaco after serving an 18-month doping ban, said he understood why new United manager Ruben Amorim had opted to move on from Rashford.

“[United] have bought a few new players and the new manager wants to do his thing I guess,” said Pogba.

“It’s not really Amorim’s fault. If he doesn’t believe in someone. He needs to win. If he doesn’t win they’re going to sack him.”
