Deal agreed by the clubs includes an option to buy for Barcelona, and they will also pay Rashford’s salary in full
Marcus Rashford is heading to Barcelona to complete his season-long loan deal, after the Catalan club agreed a deal with Manchester United on Saturday.
The English winger was given clearance by United to travel to Spain, where he will undergo a medical. Rashford will then join Hansi Flick’s squad for their summer tour of Asia.
The deal agreed by the clubs includes an option to buy for Barcelona. They will also pay Rashford’s salary in full during the loan spell.
Rashford had interest from other clubs in Italy and Saudi Arabia, but he made it clear to his representatives that Barcelona was his preferred destination.
Talks between the two clubs accelerated over the past week after moves for Barcelona’s first and second choice options – Athletic Club’s Nico Williams and Liverpool’s Luis Diaz – collapsed.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick spoke with Rashford personally and was satisfied with the skill set that the player can bring to Barcelona’s front line.
The Catalan club had been in the market for a versatile attacker, someone capable of operating on the left but also playing centrally if necessary. Rashford has experience playing across the front line and fits the profile the club was looking for.
His arrival is expected to ease the burden on Robert Lewandowski and provide competition for Ferran Torres, but youngster Pau Victor may have to depart this summer.
