Roma are considering signing Chelsea’s Aaron Anselmino, a 20-year-old central defender who won the Club World Cup with the Blues, to strengthen their defense ahead of next season.

Roma is looking to bolster their defense ahead of the next season and has added Chelsea’s Aaron Anselmino to their transfer shortlist. Anselmino, born in 2005, is a talented central defender who has already made a significant impact at Chelsea, winning the Club World Cup with the Blues. 

The 20-year-old defender was signed by Chelsea from Boca Juniors for €17 million last summer but remained on loan in Argentina until January 2025.

Anselmino’s impressive performances for Chelsea have caught the attention of several top clubs, including Roma. The Italian side is looking to strengthen their defense and believes Anselmino could be a valuable addition to their squad. 

However, the deal is proving complicated due to Anselmino’s lack of an EU passport, which could make it difficult for him to secure a work permit in Italy.

Roma’s primary target for the central defender position is Verona’s Daniele Ghilardi, who is valued at around €10 million. Real Betis are also interested in Ghilardi, and Roma will need to compete with the Spanish side to secure his services. 

The addition of Anselmino to their shortlist gives Roma another option to consider, and they will evaluate their options in the coming days.
