Jack Grealish has returned to Manchester City to train alone while he waits for his future at the club to be resolved.
The 29-year-old winger has not yet secured a move away despite widespread expectations that he would depart this summer. In the meantime, Grealish has chosen to cut short his summer break and begin pre-season training ahead of schedule.
City’s first-team players are due to report back for official pre-season preparations on 28 July, having been given a four-week break after the Club World Cup. But Grealish requested to start earlier in order to work on his individual fitness.
Grealish’s relationship with the club remains strong and the decision to return and train alone was his, according to Telegraph Sport.
The club are understood to have fully supported him so far as he continues to search for the best path forward in his career.
The decision to omit the player from City’s Club World Cup squad was also a mutual one taken between him and senior figures at the club. It was agreed that it was best for him to take some time away to resolve his future.
Grealish has been working with his long-time personal trainer Jamie Reynolds to maintain fitness during the summer, although he has now decided to begin using the club’s elite facilities after ending his summer break.
Several clubs are thought to have expressed interest in the England international but no deal has been agreed so far, with his wages believed to be a sticking point for potential suitors.
