Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, full-back Diogo Dalot and manager Ruben Amorim visited Anfield on Monday to pay tribute to Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who both died in a car crash earlier this month.

The United trio are of Portuguese nationality. They placed a wreath outside Anfield alongside the tributes of flowers, scarves and messages left by fans and players across the football community.

The message on the wreath read: “Rest in peace Diogo and Andre. With deepest condolences from everyone at Manchester United.”

Fernandes and Dalot played alongside Jota for Portugal and were part of the squad that won the UEFA Nations League in June.

Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva died in a road accident near Zamora, Spain on 3 July while travelling back from a family holiday. News of their deaths prompted an outpouring of grief across football, with tributes held at matches across Europe over the past two weeks.

In honour of Jota, Liverpool have retired the No 20 shirt across all levels of the club, both men and women’s teams.

United’s visit to Anfield comes ahead of their pre-season fixtures, with the team scheduled to travel to Stockholm later this week.
