Sporting CP forward Victor Gyokeres has opened up on his situation at the club. He mentioned that he wants a move to a club that truly wants him.
Viktor Gyokeres has opened up about his potential transfer to Arsenal, expressing his desire to play for a club that truly wants him.
When asked about the possibility of leaving Sporting CP this summer, Gyokeres seemed non-committal, saying “maybe” and “that’s football, you never know”. He emphasized that the most important thing for him is to play for a club that genuinely wants him.
Gyokeres has reportedly become Arsenal’s top target for the striker position, with the club willing to meet the €80 million price tag, consisting of an initial fee of €65 million plus €15 million in add-ons.
However, Sporting CP is insisting on a fixed fee of €70 million upfront. The Swedish striker is said to be determined to join Arsenal, having rejected opportunities to join other clubs and refusing to return for pre-season training.
The 27-year-old forward has a history of struggling in the Premier League, having spent over three years at Brighton without making a single top-flight appearance. Despite this, Gyokeres is eager to prove himself in the division, saying it would be “great revenge” to finally get his chance.
He praised Arsenal players Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes, and William Saliba, highlighting his admiration for their skills.
Gyokeres’ transfer saga has taken a dramatic turn, with reports suggesting he’s willing to take a wage cut to facilitate his move to Arsenal. He’s reportedly offered to give up €1.7 million in wages to make the switch to the Emirates. However, negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting CP have stalled over financial issues, leaving the deal hanging.
