Barcelona are preparing to open formal negotiations with Manchester United to sign Marcus Rashford, following approval from head coach Hansi Flick to push ahead with a deal for the English winger.

Rashford is open to the move and has indicated he would accept a pay cut to switch to La Liga. However, sources say that Barcelona are interested in a loan deal with an obligation to buy. The proposed deal would see Rashford join Barcelona on an initial loan with an option to make the move permanent in the summer of 2026.

Sporting director Deco is expected to meet with the player’s representatives in the coming days to discuss personal terms and present a concrete proposal to United. Rashford is understood to be prioritising a move to Barcelona and has reportedly informed his camp he will not entertain offers from other clubs this summer.

Rashford returned to Carrington earlier this week as Manchester United resumed pre-season training activities, but he has trained away from the main group because new manager Ruben Amorim wants to work only with players committed to the club.

United would prefer a permanent transfer for Rashford this summer, but the club’s financial position and a lack of serious bids may leave them with little option but to accept a temporary deal if it includes a substantial loan fee and a clear path to a sale.

Barcelona are turning to Rashford as they are determined to reinforce their forward line despite being rejected by Athletic Club’s Nico Williams and told by Liverpool that Luis Diaz is not for sale.
