Elanga registered six goals and 11 assists for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last season

Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the transfer of winger Anthony Elanga, with a fee understood to be in the region of £55m.

While some final details remain to be ironed out, both clubs have agreed on the broad terms of the deal and Elanga is expected to travel to Tyneside in the coming days to undergo a medical, as reported by Sky Sports.

Barring any late complications, the 23-year-old will become Newcastle’s first signing of the summer window.

Discussions between the two clubs have focused in recent days on the structure of the payments rather than the fee itself, with Newcastle seeking to spread the cost. Forest, for their part, were open to negotiation, having secured Elanga from Manchester United for just £15m a year ago.

The Sweden international enjoyed a strong individual campaign in a struggling Forest side last season, registering six goals and 11 assists in the Premier League. His pace and directness made him one of the consistent attacking threats in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad that just missed out on Champions League qualification on final day.

Elanga is understood to be enthusiastic about the switch, particularly with Newcastle preparing for a return to the Champions League after finishing fourth last season. Manager Eddie Howe has been keen to add athleticism and depth to his forward line, especially with long-serving striker Callum Wilson departing after five seasons at St. James’ Park.

Callum Wilson Leaves Newcastle After Player’s Contract Expires

Wilson’s exit was confirmed on Monday. The 33-year-old leaves as a respected figure in the club’s recent rise, having scored 49 goals in 130 appearances since his 2020 move from Bournemouth.

His contract expired this summer and the player made the decision to leave St James’s Park. Now a free agent, he has already attracted interest from newly promoted Premier League clubs Burnley and Leeds.
