Arsenal and Takehiro Tomiyasu mutually agree to terminate his contract, ending his injury-plagued spell at the club.

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to leave the club after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract.

The Japan international is currently recovering from knee surgery and has played just six minutes of football last season. Tomiyasu faces a lengthy rehabilitation period, expected to keep him out for up to five months.

The 26-year-old’s time at Arsenal has been marred by injuries, including a previous knee injury that required surgery in 2023. Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Bologna in 2021 and made 79 appearances for the Gunners before his injuries took hold.

With Tomiyasu’s departure, Arsenal has started looking at defensive reinforcements, with Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera among their targets. The club has already seen the departure of Kieran Tierney to Celtic, and Oleksandr Zinchenko’s future at the club remains uncertain.
