AC Milan is battling with a Saudi club for Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui, who finished as Serie A’s top scorer last season.
AC Milan is looking to bolster its attack this summer and has set its sights on Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui.
The Rossoneri are probing the market for a centre-forward following the departures of Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic. Retegui has caught Milan’s attention after finishing as Serie A’s top scorer last season with 29 goals and eight assists.
Atalanta values Retegui at over €50 million, and Milan will face tough competition from Saudi Pro League giants Al-Qadsiah, who are preparing an offer worth €50 million for the striker. Juventus have also been linked with a move for Retegui, but they are currently pursuing a move for Victor Osimhen.
The absence of Champions League football next season could derail Milan’s chances of signing Retegui. Milan’s priority is currently a left-back following the impending departure of Theo Hernandez to Al-Hilal. They have strengthened their midfield considerably after sealing deals for Luka Modric and Samuele Ricci.
Retegui’s impressive form last season has made him a target for several clubs. His goalscoring ability has propelled him into the same bracket as Europe’s elite strikers. Atalanta may be prepared to cash in on Retegui this summer due to the growing interest.
Milan’s current striker options are limited, with Santiago Gimenez being the only reliable option. However, Gimenez hasn’t hit the expected levels since his move from Feyenoord, scoring only five goals in 14 games in Serie A last season. Signing Retegui would provide much-needed competition and depth to Milan’s attack.
