Bayern Munich faced another tough test against Flamengo in the round of 16 of the Club World Cup and it took more than an ordinary fight for them to qualify.
Bayern Munich secured a 4-2 win against Flamengo to reach the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup and it was a hard fought win. Bayern and Flamengo played till the last and gave it all but the Bavarians were just too much for the Brazilians to handle.
Flamengo had just beaten Chelsea in the group stage and for Bayern, it was a sign that they had to take this match seriously, barring the fact that it was a knockout game. Bayern had recently faced a South American side in Boca Juniors and they went through a lot of struggle to win that game.
They had the lessons they needed to face Flamengo but it still was a difficult victory. Bayern started on the strong foot, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes. An own goal by Pulgar and a long range strike by Harry Kane put the Germans in front but Flamengo were still in the game.
In the 33rd minute, the Brazilian side bombed the Bayern box and their captain, Gerson, rifled a shot past Neuer into the back of the net. The crowd erupted in joy and all of a sudden, it felt like anything could happen.
The next strike was crucial and Bayern ensured they got it. Goretzka placed a long range strike past into the net to put his team 3-1 up but only for a moment as Flamengo pulled one back. A handball by Olise in the box was called for a penalty and Jorginho calmly slotted the ball into the net, sending Neuer the wrong way.
At 3-2, it was up for grabs. Flamengo came close through Henrique but his strike was millimeters off target. Bayern Munich were living on the edge and with the crowd behind Flamengo, you would think they had the next say in the game but it wasn’t to be for them.
Bayern Munich showed why they were European giants as they got the final say in the game. Harry Kane got his brace in the 77th minute to make it 4-2 and grant Bayern the win. It was a tough match but the Bavarians did just enough to make it past Flamengo. Bayern will face PSG in the next round, a fixture which promises to be exciting.
