Borussia Dortmund is close to extending Carney Chukwuemeka’s loan deal from Chelsea, despite the Blues preferring a permanent sale. The midfielder has struggled with injuries and limited playing time.
Borussia Dortmund is nearing a deal to extend Carney Chukwuemeka’s loan from Chelsea for the upcoming season.
The 21-year-old midfielder joined Dortmund in January and has made ten Bundesliga appearances, totaling 245 minutes, while struggling with injuries. Despite his limited playing time, Chukwuemeka has featured in all of Dortmund’s games at the Club World Cup.
Chelsea would ideally prefer a permanent sale, with Chukwuemeka having a £40 million release clause in his contract. However, another loan deal seems likely, given Dortmund’s reluctance to spend big on transfers. Dortmund’s coach, Niko Kovac, is reportedly a fan of Chukwuemeka, which could work in the player’s favor.

Chukwuemeka’s future at Chelsea looks uncertain, with Enzo Maresca making it clear that the young midfielder wasn’t part of his plans. With limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Chukwuemeka’s loan extension would give him more playing time and a chance to develop his skills.
Chukwuemeka is among a couple of players who are expected to leave Chelsea this summer. Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to join Arsenal while the futures of Joao Felix, Nkunku, Sterling, Broja and Chilwell look uncertain.
The Blues are also looking to strengthen their squad with new signings, including a versatile forward, left winger, and center back. With club-to-club talks advancing rapidly for potential signings like Jamie Gittens, Chelsea’s transfer window is shaping up to be busy.
