Case is part of the ongoing saga involving €55m in unpaid wages that PSG allegedly owe Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe has taken legal action against his former club Paris Saint-Germain, accusing them of “moral harassment” in a formal complaint filed with French prosecutors.

Mbappe’s legal team had previously warned that they would be filing a case against PSG for harassment because of the way the club have treated the player.

The case is part of the ongoing saga involving €55m in unpaid wages that the club allegedly owe the player. Mbappe’s camp now claim that PSG mistreated him during their contract dispute in 2023.

The club had decided to exclude Mbappe from the main squad in the summer of 2023 after he informed them he would not trigger the one-year extension in his contract. French media refer to this kind of treatment as “lofting”, when a player is isolated from the squad for administrative or disciplinary reasons.

Mbappe was left out of PSG’s pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea, and trained separately from the first team for several weeks. He was also dropped from their opening Ligue 1 fixture of the season.

PSG said they wanted to sell him rather than lose him for free at the end of the campaign, but Mbappe refused a record-breaking €300 million move to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

Despite the rift, he returned to the lineup shortly after, following talks between his camp and club executives. But tensions remained.

Mbappe’s team had previously threatened legal action, and confirmed in April that they would proceed. The striker believes the club’s actions during the standoff amounted to psychological pressure and breached employment rules.

The saga originates from a complicated contract signed in 2022, when Mbappe turned down Real Madrid to stay at PSG. He was presented to fans holding a shirt printed with “2025”, but the deal reportedly only guaranteed him until 2024, with the player able to extend for an additional year.

Mbappe then decided not to activate that extension, which angered the club and triggered a power struggle that would define his final year at the club.

Mbappe eventually left PSG on a free transfer in 2024, joining Real Madrid and ending a seven-year spell in the French capital. Ironically, PSG went on to win their first-ever Champions League title without him, but Mbappe said after the win that he was “happy” for PSG and there was “no bitterness” between him and the club.
