Juventus coach Igor Tudor was candid about his team’s 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City in the Club World Cup, acknowledging that the English champions are currently on a different level.
“Manchester City are too much for us,” Tudor confessed, praising City’s enormous quality, character, and overall strength.
Juventus suffered a 5-2 defeat to Manchester City in the Club World Cup, with City’s Jeremy Doku opening the scoring before Teun Koopmeiners equalized for Juventus. However, City’s quality and character ultimately told, as they ran out comfortable winners. The result means Juventus will likely face Real Madrid in the Round of 16.
Tudor emphasized that while anything is possible in football, beating a team of a higher level requires a team to be complete, fresh, and playing well. He took responsibility for the loss, stating that he couldn’t complain about his players’ efforts, but rather his own decisions.
“I wanted to rest a few players today and get others into shape by playing. This is a match I do not like, but if I have anything to complain about, it is to myself and not the players.”
Despite the ugly result, Tudor remains focused on the future, urging his team to put the loss behind them and push hard in the tournament.
Juventus is likely to face Real Madrid in the Round of 16, but Tudor isn’t fazed, recognizing that Manchester City have been the best team in the world for the past decade. “It’s not strange to struggle against them,” he said.
Tudor also expressed concern about the injury to Nicolò Savona, which could impact the team’s chances moving forward. However, he remains confident in his team’s abilities and is looking forward to the next challenge.
