France concluded their preparation for the UEFA Euro 2024 competition as they were held to a 0-0 draw against Canada in front of a packed home crowd at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux in France.

With just five days to go before the Euros kicks off, the Didier Deschamps’ team was looking to carry on from where it left it off on Wednesday, when they defeated Luxembourg 3-0 courtesy of goals from Kolo Muani, Clauss and Kylian Mbappe.

However, their latest opponents seemed determined to get the better of Les Blues as Jesse Marsch ‘s side were also hoping to make the best use of their games as they prepare for the 2024 Copa America where they would be facing Argentina in their first match.

This Canada side looked a much improved team from the one that lost 4-0 to the Netherlands on Thursday. They started the game on the front foot and put France under pressure but were unable to make anything count in the final third. Les Blues, on the other hand, didn’t seem like they wanted to cause Canada any problem, with Giroud leading the line in what was his final home game for the French national team.

The second-half started off with a little more urgency than the first as a back-to-back moment in the 47th minute first saw Maxime Crepeau palm away Marcus Thuram’s cross into a dangerous area but there was no French player to follow up with a finish and this turned into a quick counter that ended with Liam Millar getting past Jules Kounde and seeing his curler come off the bar.

There were just few high points after that, with Giroud getting a standing ovation after he was substituted in what was his last home game and Mbappe being introduced in the final minutes. In the end, both teams settled for a draw.

France would now turn their attention to their first match at the Euros against Austria on Monday, 17th of June while Canada would turn their attention to their opening match against Argentina on the 20th of June.
