New Liverpool signing says “I would like to win everything every year”
Florian Wirtz is “really ambitious” and ready to showcase his talent for the Premier League’s billions of viewers to behold. The German midfielder completed his high-profile move to champions Liverpool on Friday and says he’s aiming high from day one.
With talent, ambition and now the biggest stage to perform on, Wirtz is ready to show what he can do.
“I would like to win everything every year, but first of all we have to do our work,” said Wirtz. “Last season they won the Premier League so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I’m really ambitious.”
After a standout spell in the Bundesliga, Wirtz says joining Liverpool fits into his ambition, as he wants to play for “one of the top three biggest clubs in the world”, though he wisely prefaced that with “in my opinion”.
“I’m really excited to have a new adventure in front of me,” said Wirtz. “This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League,” he said. “I will see how I can perform there. I hope I can do my best.”
The 21-year-old added that he’s spoken to several players who have experienced English football, and the feedback was all positive.
“I spoke also with some players who played there and they told me that it’s perfect for me and every pitch is perfect, you can enjoy every game. I’m really looking forward to playing my first game.”
