Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson issues a heartfelt apology to his teammates and fans after picking up his second red card in four matches, vowing to learn from his mistakes.
Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has apologized to his teammates and the club’s fans after being sent off in the Blues’ 3-1 loss to Flamengo at the Club World Cup. Jackson, who came on as a substitute, lunged in on Ayrton Lucas and earned a straight red card, adding to his disciplinary issues.
“I want to say sorry,” Jackson wrote on Instagram. “To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down.” He expressed his anger at himself, acknowledging that his actions put his team in a difficult situation.
Jackson took full responsibility for his actions, stating that there were no excuses for his behavior. “I’ll reflect, I’ll grow, and I’ll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me,” he added.
The red card means Jackson will serve a minimum one-game suspension and could face a longer ban if FIFA reviews the incident. This is Jackson’s second red card in four matches, having been sent off against Newcastle last month for a similarly reckless challenge.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca attributed Jackson’s disciplinary issues to bad moments rather than any specific factor l,ike competition from new signing Liam Delap.
“It happened against Newcastle and it happened today,” Maresca said. “Nico knows very well that in both situations it was not something good for the team.”
Maresca rejected the suggestion that Jackson’s red card was linked to Delap’s arrival, emphasizing that Jackson’s future was not a factor in the incident. “The red card had nothing to do with Nico’s future,” Maresca said.
Flamengo’s win puts them top of Group D, while Chelsea faces Esperance Sportive de Tunis on Wednesday without Jackson. The Blues will need to regroup and find a way to overcome their opponent without their suspended striker.
