Barcelona winger says “my game will improve” and hails Raphinha and Lewandowski for their support
Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal says his best is yet to come as he is still learning and will “get better every year”.
The teenage winger has already impressed football fans around the world with his skill and maturity on the pitch, and in the documentary, Inside Barca, released on Thursday, the 17-year-old spoke confidently about his development and the support he has received from his senior teammates.
“I think I’ll improve every year,” said Yamal. “I’ll gain experience and my game will improve, because in the end my body will grow and change, and the difference with our opponents will be noticeable. Every year I’ll get better and more comfortable.”
Yamal played a key role in helping Barcelona bounce back from a tough 2023-24 season to win the double in 2024-25 under new manager Hansi Flick. The Catalans beat rivals Real Madrid four times last season, and on each of the last three occasions, overpowering them on their way to a trophy.
In January Barcelona beat Madrid 5-2 to win the Spanish Super Cup. In April they won in extra time to lift the Copa del Rey, and the next month they achieved a comeback at home to put the La Liga title beyond their rivals.
“Winning the Super Cup gave us a lot of confidence to start the year off well,” said Yamal. “It was very important for the team, because losing against our biggest rival would have been a very hard blow, but the way we won (5-2) gave us a lot of confidence. It was very good for the team.”
The Spain international also had high praise for teammates Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, calling them key figures in his growth at the club.
“Playing with players of the calibre of Raphinha and Robert is much easier,” said Yamal. “They are two incredible forwards. They have had a goalscoring ability that hasn’t been seen for a long time. It’s incredible to have them on the team.
“Since I arrived, they’ve helped me in every way they could. They’ve made things easier for me, and I’m very grateful.”
