Club have accepted the punishment and issued an apology to the Premier League
Manchester City have been fined a total of £1.08m by the Premier League for causing repeated delays during matches last season.
The league found that City broke rules around kick-offs and restarts in nine different games, both at home and away. The rules state that a club will be subject to punishment if they delay the kick-off of a league match or the re-start after half time.
Last season City caused a delay of up to 18 minutes and 53 seconds in nine matches. The teams they faced in those games were Southampton, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Newcastle. In the games against West Ham and Ipswich Town, the restart was delayed by over two minutes.
This is not the first time City have been fined for such an offence. Last year, the club were also fined around £2m for delays.
City have accepted the punishment and issued an apology, saying they have reminded players and staff about the importance of following matchday timing rules.
In a statement, the Premier League said: “Rules relating to kick-offs and re-starts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs. It also ensures the broadcast of every Premier League match is kept to schedule.”
