Player’s reaction comes after reports of a rift between him and the club; Manchester United and Arsenal are both interested in signing the 27-year-old

Manchester United and Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres has responded to mounting speculation about his future at Sporting, addressing rumours of a fallout with the club through an Instagram message.

“There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false,” wrote the Swedish striker. “I will speak when the time is right.”

This comes after reports that the 27-year-old is upset at Sporting for demanding a transfer fee more than the £60m reached in a gentleman’s agreement between him and the club

Sporting president Frederico Varandas said this week that there was no gentleman’s agreement and that Sporting would demand any fee they deem as matching the value of the player, though not up to the £85m release clause in his contract.

Reports coming from Portugal then followed that Gyokeres was allegedly upset at the club for going back on the true agreement they’d had with his representatives.

Gyokeres had a remarkable 2024-25 season, scoring 54 goals and providing 13 assists in 52 matches. United have expressed interest in signing the player if it is financially viable for them, with Ruben Amorim reportedly admiring the player.

Arsenal are also said to be interested, but it could ultimately come down to a choice for Arteta between Gyokeres and RB Lepizig’s Benjamin Sesko.
