PSG to run scans to determine extent of Dembele injury; Barcola also out of France squad
Ousmane Dembele has withdrawn from the France squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League third-place match against Germany, after suffering an injury in his left leg.
The 27-year-old forward will also miss his club Paris Saint-Germain’s opening fixture in the Club World Cup against Atletico Madrid on 15 June in Los Angeles.
Initial assessments suggest a recovery period of two to three weeks, although Dembele is scheduled for further scans on Saturday to determine the full extent of the damage.
The player’s availability for PSG’s second Club World Cup clash, set for 20 June against Brazilian side Botafogo, is also in significant doubt.
Dembele’s absence is a blow for both country and club, especially following his impressive individual displays for PSG this season, where he has become a key figure under manager Luis Enrique.
Fellow PSG winger Bradley Barcola has also returned to Paris early but due to a minor knock. Unlike with Dembele, the club are optimistic that he’ll recover in time for their Club World Cup campaign.
