Sels and Raya share Golden Glove Award

David Raya and Matt Sels both shared the Premier League’s Golden Glove award after ending the season with 13 clean sheets each.

Yesterday’s final day drama in the Premier League included a fight for the Golden Glove award. Matt Sels of Nottingham Forest and David Raya of Arsenal were firmly in the forefront of the race to win the award.

Both goalkeepers have been exceptional all season and were tied with 13 clean sheets each. Both keepers needed one more save to solely claim the award in their final game, however, they both failed to get any clean sheets and were tied for the award going into the final day.

Raya conceded from a corner on the final day in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Southampton, while Sels fell short as well when Chelsea’s Levi Colwill tapped in from close range to score the only goal that separated the two sides. Forest went on to lose the match which saw them finish seventh and in the Conference League spot.

Both Raya and Sels would share the award, making it Raya’s second consecutive time of winning the award. Sels also writes history as he becomes the first goalkeeper outside of clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool to win the award since its inception in 2004.
