Last season was a record breaking season for Bayer Leverkusen, but this season, they have achieved something very special in German football history.
Last season, they didn’t lose a single game at home on their way to winning the Bundesliga and DFB Cup in the 2023/24 season. However, this season, it’s their away record that’s truly making headlines.
Leverkusen has gone 34 away league matches without defeat, surpassing Bayern Munich’s previous record of 33 games.
What’s even more impressive is that this feat has been accomplished under the guidance of a single head coach, Xabi Alonso. This marks another record for the Spanish tactician, as Leverkusen becomes the first team to achieve such a milestone with one manager at the helm.
The previous record holder, Udo Lattek, had 27 away matches without defeat, but Alonso’s team has taken that to a whole new level. Leverkusen’s away record over the past two seasons stands at 23 wins and 11 draws, showcasing their consistency and determination.
Given that the 2024/25 season may not have ended in the same level of success as the previous one, with Leverkusen dethroned in the Bundesliga and in Europe, their focus now shifts to extending their record-breaking run in the upcoming 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign.
Although Alonso won’t be at the helm, the team will look to build on their impressive away form and make history once again. The new season kicks off on August 22, and Leverkusen fans will be eager to see their team continue their unbeaten streak.
