Aston Villa took a step closer to Champions League football with the 2-0 thumping of Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Aston Villa were heads and shoulders above Tottenham in their Premier League clash on Friday. Goals from Konsa and Kamara were enough to get the Villains a much-needed win over Tottenham.
Spurs didn’t have much help as they were riddled with injury to some of their best players. Maddison, Bergvall and Kulusevki were all sidelined with injuries and with the Europa League final coming up, Postecoglou made the decision to rest a lot of his starting players and keep them fresh for the final.
In the first half, Villa found it difficult to get behind the Spurs’ backline but with the pressure they kept mounting, it was only a matter of time before the scoreline changed.
Villa, although qualified for Europe, can still put pressure on Chelsea and Newcastle in the Champions League football race. Their next match against Manchester United will be a tough one because they would be desperate for all three points.
