Club announced there would no free tickets for employees to watch Europa League final
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim will personally foot the bill to ensure 30 members of his backroom staff and their families can attend the Europa League final later this month.
According to ESPN, Amorim has informed the club that he will cover the costs of tickets and travel for each member of his support team, including coaches, analysts, physios and lower-paid staff, to the final in Bilbao on 21 May. Each person can also bring up to two guests.
Earlier this week, the club announced that they would not be providing free tickets to employees for the final, instead offering a screening of the match with two free drinks. In contrast, Tottenham, whom they will play against in the final, have confirmed that each of their 700 employees will receive a free ticket for the game.
The Europa League final is of serious importance for both sides, with a place in next season’s Champions League on the line and a chance to redeem awful domestic performances that have seen them bottom of the Premier League table not counting the relegated sides.
United and Spurs have both been allocated 15,000 tickets each for the match at San Mames. The club’s decision to prioritise sales over staff goodwill has drawn frustration inside Old Trafford, especially as United have also said that they will hold only a private barbecue for staff and players instead of a public bus parade if they win the final.
Before then, United and Tottenham will play the penultimate round of Premier League fixtures. United take on Chelsea while Tottenham host Aston Villa, with both games to be played on Friday to offer them time to prepare for the showdown on 21 May.
