Inter were knocked out of the Coppa Italia and faltered in their league title charge without the France international to lead the line

Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram is accelerating his recovery from injury, with the club hoping that he can be fit for the Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona.

The French international completed a high-intensity solo training session on Monday, and club president Giuseppe Marotta expressed his hope that Thuram could be available for selection against Barcelona.

“He is recovering little by little, but I’m very optimistic,” said Marotta in an interview with DAZN. “I hope and believe he can make it for Wednesday.”

On Tuesday morning, the 27-year-old participated in a group training session, according to Sky Sport. It is now believed that he is in contention for a start on Wednesday at the Estadi Olimpico.

Thuram’s absence in recent games has coincided with a dip in Inter’s performances. Without the striker present to lead the line alongside Lautaro Martinez, the team has struggled to score and were thrashed 3-0 at home by rivals AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-final.

In fact, Inter have lost their last three matches, failing to score in every single one. On Sunday, they were defeated 1-0 by Roma at the San Siro, leaving them three points behind Napoli at the top of Serie A. Prior to Thuram’s absence, the club had been well on course for a treble, which would have been only the second in their history after Jose Mourinho led his side to glory in 2010.

With Thuram in the side again, Inter may hope to defeat Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final.
