Manchester United managed a draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, after Rasmus Hojlund scored a late goal to bring the score to 1-1.

It was much the same as usual. United fans would be familiar. Amorim’s side struggled to get in the game with Bournemouth clearly the better side.

Antoine Semenyo put the Cherries ahead in the 23rd minute after United scuffed their attempt to play out from the back. Tyler Adams won the ball and fed it neatly to Evanilson, who passed to Semenyo and Onana’s net rippled in the first half an hour of a football match. Not exactly for the first time. It marked the 21st occasion this season that the Red Devils have gone behind first.

United tried to rally and create chances, but it was all too easy for Bournemouth to handle, just as easy as it was for the home side to get through United’s midfield, looking like they could score every time.

Casemiro tried a dangerous high-boot tackle. Fernandes was easily dispossessed. All the confusion and bewilderment that have marked the Premier League’s 14th-placed side this season.

Then things turned a bit and United finally began to come to life. Mainoo took a shot and it went out for a corner. Then another corner. Then another.

In the second half United continued to apply pressure but so did Bournemouth. In the 68th minute Bournemouth’s Evanilson hewed down Noussair Mazraoui and was awarded a red card. It looked like the Brazilian had slipped but it went unnoticed.

United began to throw men forward to get the equaliser, with Amorim switching to a 4-4-2 in possession. The clock was ticking down. Another day, another loss. An additional nine minutes was given. Just when that too was about to expire, Luke Shaw squared a pass that Hojlund deflected in after Manuel Ugarte had first attacked the ball.

The striker got his fourth goal in the Premier League this season, and United could, at the final whistle, tick the box beside this matchday in their season’s register: not a loss.
