La Liga will investigate incidents that occurred in the clásico between Barcelona and Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Sunday, where the home side’s supporters appeared to throw objects towards rival players and Eduardo Camavinga was allegedly assaulted with a flagpole.

Madrid won 2-1 having initially taken the lead in the first half through Kylian Mbappe and seen Rapinha equalise in the second for Barcelona. Jude Bellingham then released Camavinga late in the game, the Frenchman evading Pau Cubarsi and cutting back for Mbappe who arrived to score the eventual winner just three minutes from regulation time.

During the subsequent goal celebrations, footage showed a Barcelona supporter appearing to strike Camavinga with a flagpole. His teammates helped move him away from the situation.

The referee’s report of the game also showed that a water bottle and a Coca-Cola can were thrown by Barcelona supporters from the stands, although neither object hit a Madrid player.

La Liga has said it will report the incidents to its disciplinary committee. If Barcelona’s supporters are found guilty, the club are likely to be fined.

The match was a high-stakes affair as Madrid arrived at the Camp Nou under a new manager, determined to put an end to a six-game losing run in the clásico. They were also six points behind Barcelona already and cutting that gap was imperative.

On the other hand, Barcelona were on a nine-game winning streak at the start of the La Liga season and victory in the clásico would have made them the first team in La Liga history to win their first 10 games of the season.
