Australia were seconds away from a famous victory over Brazil, but Rayan’s 95th-minute header rescued a 1-1 draw for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
The Socceroos entered the contest looking to cause an upset against the five-time world champions, and they showed little fear from the opening whistle.
Nestory Irankunda was particularly dangerous early on, forcing Hugo Souza into a smart save with a dipping effort from outside the box, while Connor Metcalfe also tested the Brazilian defence.
Brazil gradually began to take control, with Raphinha, Vinicius Junior and Estevao all threatening as the visitors looked for an opener. Estevao thought he had broken the deadlock shortly before half-time after a neat exchange with Endrick, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review for a foul by Bruno Guimaraes on Harry Souttar in the build-up.
Australia continued to frustrate Brazil after the restart, but the Selecao began to create more openings as the hour mark approached.
In the 68th minute, Irankunda stepped up for a free-kick around 25 yards from goal and produced a stunning strike that flew over the wall and into the top corner. The 20-year-old raced away to celebrate with a backflip as Australia took a shock lead against the five-time world champions.

Brazil responded by throwing more bodies forward, but Australia defended with determination as the clock ticked towards full-time.
The Socceroos appeared to have done enough to secure only their second victory over Brazil, but there was one final twist.
With virtually the last kick of the game, Raphinha delivered a corner into the box and Rayan rose highest to power a header towards goal. Patrick Beach got a hand to the effort, but could only help it onto the underside of the crossbar and over the line.
It ends all square in Townsville after a last-gasp Brazil equaliser.
