Cole Palmer is determined to put questions over his commitment to England and Chelsea behind him as he focuses on staying fit and proving his importance to both sides.
Palmer has withdrawn from England’s squad for the current international break after being ruled out alongside Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice because of injury issues.
In Palmer’s case, the decision appears to be largely precautionary, with reports suggesting the Chelsea forward is dealing with a minor muscular problem after playing almost every minute of the club’s matches this season. The timing is particularly frustrating for Palmer, who had only just returned to Thomas Tuchel’s England plans after being left out of the 2026 World Cup squad.

The 24-year-old had made an impressive start to the season for Chelsea, scoring four goals and providing two assists in seven appearances before the latest international withdrawal. However, sources close to the situation have indicated that Palmer remains fully committed to England and is determined to establish himself as an important player for the national team ahead of EURO 2028.
His absence is also not believed to have changed his commitment to Chelsea.
Palmer has been linked with a possible move away from Stamford Bridge, with Manchester United among the clubs reportedly interested in the England international. There has also been speculation over whether he could be unsettled in London. Those suggestions have not affected Palmer’s focus, with the player understood to remain committed to succeeding at Chelsea under new manager Xabi Alonso.
The international break will now give Palmer an opportunity to concentrate on his conditioning while Chelsea also look to recover from their difficult start under Alonso.
The Blues suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brentford in their most recent Premier League match, leaving Alonso with work to do during the extended international break.
For Palmer, however, the priority is straightforward: stay fit, perform consistently and show what he can offer both Chelsea and England. Having endured an injury-hit 2025-26 campaign and missed the World Cup, Palmer is determined to put those setbacks behind him and prove himself again at the highest level.
